Yorgos Kypris was born in Cyprus in 1954. He studied at the Sarafianos School in Athens and the Istituto Statale d¢arte ceramica in Faenza, Italy. He has presented his work in solo exhibitions in Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands and USA, and has participated in numerous groups and international shows in many countries.
He has published articles in magazines and designed jewellery and pottery for Greek and Italian manufacturers. He has won awards in art competitions and installed his works for public and private collections around the world. He lives in Greece, sharing his time between Santorini, where he keeps the main exhibition area for his work, and his studio in Athens. His work mainly consists of the study of the human species.
He is researching the actions of humans as individuals or members of groups, trying to illuminate the negative behaviors of our race. He feels uncovered from our cruelty against other forms of life, or from our behavior against humans of different race. He often creates sarcastic works related to human vanity and elaborates the parameters which create loneliness to people.
He insists we humans are catastrophic for our environment as long as we think only of ourselves. He believes that it is useful to acquire sensibilities in order to save our world and provide future to the next generations. |
